My second attempt is much more to my liking. I feel like I achieved what I was after. Of course, as soon as I finished it I thought "I need to do this one more time."

Why is this more to your liking than the first one?
You have our permission to paint thousands of these.
I'm so glad you like it! No. 2 was painted faster with more of the "lay it and leave it" brush work and therefore has a more vibrant appearance. I like the treatment of the center much more than the first one. They both look much better in real life.
